Chris was invited to be a speaker at the Women in Football Be Inspired Conference in partnership with Barclays on the 12th March 2024 at Wembley Stadium in London – with an attendance of over 1000 people!
Women in Football (WIF) are a network of professionals working in and around the football industry who support and champion their peers. While they know there has been significant progress in women’s participation in football and great strides have been made, they know that there is still much more to do.
Their aim is to empower women, men and non-binary people with knowledge, expertise and collective support to create a stronger, brighter and more diverse future. While others champion the need for change, Women in Football are the ones driving it.
During the Women in Football Be Inspired Conference, panel sessions opened with some appalling examples of the online abuse suffered by Suzanne Wrack and heard powerful arguments from Eniola Aluko MBE on how to respond.
We also heard inspirational career stories, a discussion on what extent women’s football should attempt to emulate the competitive and financial structures of the men’s game, and what thrilling visions are heading for the future for women’s football – the event captured both the progress and challenges perfectly.
Chris said: “Women in Football have an extraordinary team, working tirelessly to create a better future, led by Yvonne Harrison. Hearing the challenges being experienced by some of our superwomen like Eni Aluko, as a man, dad, partner, son, brother and friend left me both embarrassed and ashamed. “I stand with you” – we should all be standing with you. It was a privilege to speak at this event, and I am very thankful to them for having me”.
